How Modular Structures are Eco-Friendly and Sustainable

The world is waking up to the urgency of sustainability—and so are we. At Highmark TechSystems, we’ve woven eco-conscious practices into every corner of our business. From the materials we choose to the way we design our modular structures, sustainability isn’t just an add-on—it’s a foundation.

In this blog, we’re sharing how we’re making an impact, reducing waste, and leading the charge toward greener, smarter construction.

Highmark’s Sustainable Practices

Our modular structures are made in the USA, fast, flexible, and ‘designed for designers’ to last a lifetime of creative reuse. We design products that have “reduce, reuse, and recycle” built into their DNA. Here are a few of our sustainable practices built into every DNA strand of our modular solutions.

Reduce

We’re located in the Midwest. This provides both logistic and economic advantages that help save time and money when shipping throughout the United States. Plus, the lightweight materials that our products are made out of reduce emissions during transportation.

Reuse

Not only are Highmark exhibit systems a sustainable choice, but they are also cost-effective and can be customized to meet the continually changing exhibition and event needs of customers. This includes indoor and outdoor applications such as trade shows, road shows, experiential activations, sporting events, corporate staging events, permanent installations, and more. To invest in reusable modular structures is an investment in longevity.

Recycle

Our products are highly sustainable because they use aluminum profiles and steel components that are comprised of 80% recycled or reclaimed material. Special care is taken in reclaiming and reusing other items in the manufacturing process; machine coolants are reused, and acrylics and foam are recycled. Plus, all of our products are available for rent (reuse) and designed on a grid (reduce) for reconfigurability.

Added Bonus: Sustainable On The Wallet, Too!

Oftentimes, eco-friendly solutions are costly. But not at Highmark. Because of the durability, long service life, reconfigurability, and our rental program, our products are actually cost-effective. You don’t have to buy a new structure for every event or project. And we here at Highmark don’t have to continually manufacture new parts and pieces.

Its a win-win, for the planet and your budget.

The Impact of Sustainable Design

What does the impact of sustainability look like in a real-life application? Here are a few examples.

Imagine this: a leading retail brand is preparing for a series of pop-up events across the country.

Instead of building a new display for each location, they partner with us here at Highmark to design a modular structure that can be disassembled, transported, and reassembled multiple times. Not only does this save them time and money, but it also drastically reduces the waste typically associated with temporary installations. Each piece of the structure is reused, ensuring nothing ends up in a landfill after the event is over.

Now picture a school district needing additional classroom space for its growing student population. Rather than the costly and time-intensive traditional construction project, the district opts for Highmark’s modular classrooms.

These structures are built with eco-friendly materials and designed for energy efficiency, providing a comfortable learning environment while minimizing the carbon footprint. And because they’re modular, these classrooms can be expanded or relocated as the district’s needs evolve.

These scenarios illustrate the power of sustainable modular design. By prioritizing reusability and resource efficiency, Highmark’s solutions support a greener, more responsible future for everyone.
